Obama's Obedient Artist: Is Shepard Fairey a Farce? By Rizzuto Tue Sep 23, 2008 - For those of you who don't know who Shepard Fairey is, he's the artist behind the Obey Giant brand (you know all those little stickers of Andre the Giant you see on walls, bathroom stalls, light posts, etc?) He also happens to be the artist behind the now infamous propaganda-esq portrait of Obama. Full disclosure, I'm a collector of some of his work. I own several prints including a portrait of Joey Ramone which hangs prominently in my apartment. I recently stumbled upon an article by Brian Sherwin, senior editor of the Myartspace.com blog in which he makes a pretty good case that Fairey is a fraud, rip off, and bullsh*t artist.
