Left playing out martyrdom fantasy with recent attacks on criticism By Rizzuto Tue Aug 18, 2009 - There’s been a growing chorus lately of left-wingers who have equated political opposition to the president to wanting him dead. The latest comes from Howard Dean who claimed that Senate Republicans wanted to kill the healthcare bill and “kill the president.” First, let’s not forget that it was leftists who made a movie in which George W. Bush was assassinated, and fantasized about killing “Baby Bush” as Cindy Sheehan had. But besides that, lets call this what it really is, this is nothing more than the liberal martyrdom fantasy playing out. The truth is that people like Dean believe that Obama is worth more to Democrats as a martyr than he is as an ineffectual and weak president that he is. Besides, the obvious moral and social reasons for not wanting the President to be murdered, do we really need another dead Democrat whose legacy can be distorted to make him seem as if he was a liberal knight in shinning armor? Do we really need another dead Democrat who posterity will falsely be remembered as some racial messiah? Do we really need another dead Democrat whose eulogy can be classlessly used to attack political foes? Of course we don’t.
