Fred Thompson Returns to Acting
By Joe

Mon Mar 24, 2008 - It was announced today that Fred Thompson has signed on with the William Morris Agency for future acting roles. It appears that the rumors of Thompson running for Governor of Tennessee were unfounded, unfortunately.

Although his presidential bid was unsuccessful, I think conservatives owe Thompson a debt of gratitude. He campaigned exclusively on ideas (almost to a fault). He didn't offer the public hope, change, or any other number of cliches. He didn't relish shaking hands or attending several hundred pancake breakfasts. Instead, Thompson believed he could win the presidency by explaining his policies and trusting the electorate to reason them and support them. His 15 minute video (seen here)before the Iowa caucus failed to deliver him the state, but was an interesting move and represented the depth of knowledge in a conservative philosophy.

We certainly wish Fred the best of luck in his future roles, on both the political and Hollywood stages.

Also, just throwing this out there... can I have my $50 back?

I was still holding out for him becoming VP, but that seems unlikely now that he has signed a contract. He's the first politician that I had ever been really excited about. I was always a supporter, but after the North Carolina Republican debate I was all-in. He better run again next time.

I was a Fred-head too (actually I own http://fredhead.org.) I think he'll be a little too old next time around. A shame...

In terms of ideology, he was the best. His tax plan would have been a dream come true. The problem was his presentation. I'm a little young to remember Reagan but listened to old Reagan speeches on Wilkow while Wilkow was on vacation. After that point I came to believe that presentation as well as the ability to convince the American people about the wisdom of Conservatism are key qualities that a conservative presidential candidate should have.
