Stephen King: If You Can't Read, You'll End Up in the Army or Iraq By Rizzuto Mon May 05, 2008 - Sounds like someone else we know doesn’t it? We know that this is what the left really thinks, good to see that King has the balls to make his ignorance public. Via Newsbusters: I don't want to sound like an ad, a public service ad on TV, but the fact is if you can read, you can walk into a job later on. If you don't, then you've got, the Army, Iraq, I don't know, something like that. It's, it's not as bright. So, that's my little commercial for that. It’s not going to make me get rid of my copy of Skeleton Crew, but I’m going to think twice about buying his next book. I might just donate the money to the Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund instead.

does he not know of the asvab? in insomnia he calls Hillary a dyke repeatedly...that made me laugh.

He is just mad that I don't read his books. I would much rather read the paper than some guy's book with a little too active of an imagination.

to add...dean koontz is without a doubt a republican...well maybe a libertarian, but hes donated massive amounts of money to the RNC and some very conservative candidates. so yeah read him instead.

Tom Clancy is a Republican too.

You can't get into the Army if you're illiterate... so perhaps the best thing for someone to do to avoid a tour of duty in Iraq is to be too stupid to qualify for military service.

Even a ground pounder has to take the ASVAB and score at least 31. That's more than just spelling your name right and guessing a few answers correctly. It shows at least a minimum level of literacy and a reasonable grasp of various mechanical concepts. In other words, this isn't the Vietnam era draftee Army, Mr King. Oh, and f**k Steven King for dragging us along for 15 years with the Dark Tower series in order to phone in the last book.

It sounds to me like King's brain is still thinking about the 1970's "All Vol/Stripes" Army. He should get out of his comfortable little nook and see a bit of the world...

Personally, I don't think King really believes that students who can't read simply join the military. I think he was, as many idiots, taking an ill-informed position on persons in the military as well as students decisions in life. It's that if-you-don't-go-to-college-you-must-be-stupid attitude. Of course when you do go to college and actually participate the teacher tries to sue you, the school and claim you are a bully.

Personally, I get a bit peeved with the rhetoric about the poor and uneducated being in the military. The military is a great opportunity. While there, you can serve your country and learn new skills. What's wrong with that? When people speak as if the poor and uneducated are being "targetted" by the military, I know they have their heads up their asses.

I am enlisting as an infantryman in the Army, and I scored above 120 on every line score on the ASVAB. Many of the other recruits I have met at the recruiting station have had similar scores. And from what I have seen, all the other guys that are going to be grunts have on average, higher scores than those enlisting in other MOS's. I'm not saying this is absolutely true everywhere, just what I have seen myself. Sure seems like we are all illiterate f**kups...
